What Is Botox?

Botox Cosmetic is a purified protein (onabotulinumtoxinA) that temporarily relaxes the specific muscles that cause expression lines. When those muscles soften, the skin above them smooths out. Used in small, precise doses, it reduces wrinkles without freezing your expression.

Botox Treatment Areas

Forehead Lines

Horizontal lines that appear when you raise your eyebrows.

Frown Lines (the “11s”)

Vertical lines between the eyebrows that can make you look tired or upset even when you’re not.

Crow’s Feet

Fine lines at the outer corners of the eyes that deepen when you smile.

Lip Flip

A few units above the upper lip relax the muscle so the lip rolls slightly outward, for a fuller look without filler.

Bunny Lines

Small lines on the sides of the nose that appear when you scrunch your face.

Jaw Slimming and Teeth Grinding (Masseter Botox)

Relaxing the jaw muscles can soften a square jawline and may ease clenching and grinding.

Neck Bands

Vertical bands on the neck that become more visible with age.

Excessive Sweating

Botox can reduce underarm sweating for several months.

Some areas above are off-label uses; your provider will explain which options are right for you.

Before and After Botox

Before your appointment:

  • Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, and alcohol for a few days beforehand, if your provider approves, to reduce bruising
  • Arrive with a clean face, without makeup if possible

After your treatment:

  • Stay upright for about 4 hours
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours
  • Don’t rub, massage, or press on the treated areas
  • Skip facials, saunas, and hot yoga for a day or two

Baby Botox and Preventative Botox

Baby Botox uses smaller doses for a softer, more natural result, a good option for first-timers or anyone who wants subtle change.

Preventative Botox is often chosen by people in their late 20s and 30s to soften fine lines before they deepen. Your provider will tell you honestly whether it’s worthwhile for you.

Botox for Men in San Antonio & Boerne

More men are choosing Botox to look rested and sharp without looking “done.” Men often need slightly higher doses because of stronger facial muscles, and treatment is planned to keep the brow and features naturally masculine. Common areas include forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet.

Is Botox Safe?

Botox has been used cosmetically for more than two decades and is well studied. Common, temporary side effects include small bumps, redness, mild bruising, or a brief headache. Rarely, a temporary eyelid or brow droop can occur, which is why precise placement by an experienced provider matters. Botox isn’t recommended if you:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have certain neuromuscular conditions, such as myasthenia gravis
  • Have an active skin infection at the injection site
  • Have had an allergic reaction to botulinum toxin products

Cosmetic Botox is for adults 18 and older.

We are thrilled with our first visit here. Everything moved very quickly and efficiently, as they seem to have a very effective team of employees. The appointment lasted approximately 1 hour, and that included new patient intake forms, vitals, seeing the doctor and getting labs done. I love how fast the process went, while also feeling seen, heard and feeling like our concerns were valid and taken seriously. The receptionists were all very friendly, inviting and helpful, including Delilah, who checked us out and set our next appointment. Finding a new primary care provider can be quite overwhelming and time consuming, but not here, and the services offered go above and beyond anything we expected. We look forward to future visits with this practice.

I’ve had a great experience with Alamo Primary Care. Everyone in the office has always been friendly, welcoming, and willing to help. The front desk ladies are always kind and make everything easy, whether it’s scheduling appointments or answering questions. The doctor takes the time to listen and explain things without making you feel rushed, and the PA has been just as helpful and knowledgeable. It’s nice to go to a doctor’s office where you feel like they actually care about their patients. Highly recommend!

This was my first time at this location and I was pleasantly surprised at every turn of this appointment. The front staff were incredibly welcoming and equally as funny. I’m a nervous talker so they humored me and it helped me calm down a lot. The doctor was punctual and very thorough for a first time visit which was a pleasant surprise. He had several follow up questions about each of my concerns and gathered more information as well as educated me more than any physician I’ve seen on a first visit. Excellent first impression and visit.

I cannot say enough good things about my experience with Dr. Vishal. From the moment I walked in, I felt comfortable from the check in with the ladies up front to the medical assistants in the back! He talked to me, not at me. He listened to my concerns, asked thoughtful questions, and made me feel validated. He came highly recommended and I never felt one ounce of regret. It’s such a relief to finally have a primary care doctor who makes you feel seen and heard. 10/10 recommend!

Where can I get Botox in San Antonio, TX?

Alamo Primary Care offers Botox at its Westover Hills clinic, 12047 Potranco Rd, San Antonio, TX 78253. Treatments for forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet are performed by medical providers after a consultation, with results in about two weeks.

Where can I get Botox in Boerne, TX?

Alamo Primary Care provides Botox at 1411 S Main Street, Boerne, TX 78006, open Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. Visits take about 15 to 30 minutes, with little to no downtime, for patients from Boerne, Fair Oaks Ranch, and Kendall County.

How much does Botox cost in San Antonio?

Botox is priced per unit, so cost depends on the areas treated and the number of units needed. A frown-line treatment typically uses about 15 to 25 units. Alamo Primary Care confirms your total price at your consultation before anything is booked.

How many units of Botox do I need?

Typical ranges are 10 to 20 units for forehead lines, 15 to 25 units for frown lines, 20 to 24 units for crow’s feet, and 4 to 6 units for a lip flip. Your Alamo Primary Care provider tailors the dose to your muscles and goals.

How long does Botox last?

Botox typically lasts three to four months. Lines gradually return as muscle movement comes back. Many patients at Alamo Primary Care in San Antonio and Boerne schedule treatments every three to four months to maintain results.

How long does Botox take to work?

Botox usually starts working within three to five days, with full results at about 10 to 14 days. Alamo Primary Care recommends waiting two weeks before judging results or scheduling a touch-up.

Does Botox hurt?

Most people feel only a quick pinch with each injection. Botox uses a very fine needle, and the treatment itself takes about 10 to 15 minutes. Ice or topical numbing can be used for extra comfort.

What should I avoid after Botox?

After Botox, stay upright for about four hours, avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours, and don’t rub or massage the treated area. Skipping facials, saunas, and hot yoga for a day or two also helps the Botox stay where it was placed.

What is a lip flip?

A lip flip uses a few units of Botox, usually four to six, above the upper lip to relax the muscle so the lip rolls slightly outward. It creates a subtly fuller look without filler and lasts about two to three months.

What is baby Botox?

Baby Botox uses smaller doses spread across treatment areas for a softer, more natural result. It’s a popular choice for first-time patients and anyone who wants to keep full facial expression while reducing fine lines.

At what age should you start Botox?

There’s no single right age. Many people start in their late 20s or 30s when fine lines begin to stay at rest, often called preventative Botox. Cosmetic Botox is for adults 18 and older, and Alamo Primary Care advises honestly on whether it’s worthwhile.

What is the difference between Botox and Dysport?

Botox and Dysport are both botulinum toxin injections that relax wrinkle-causing muscles. Dysport may spread slightly more and sometimes takes effect a little faster, while Botox is the most widely studied. Results and duration are similar for most people.

Can men get Botox in San Antonio and Boerne?

Yes. Alamo Primary Care offers Botox for men, most often for forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet. Men may need slightly higher doses due to stronger facial muscles, and treatment is planned to keep features natural and masculine.

What are the side effects of Botox?

Common side effects include small bumps, redness, mild bruising, or a brief headache, usually resolving within a day or two. Rarely, a temporary eyelid or brow droop can occur. Precise placement by an experienced provider helps reduce this risk.

Who should not get Botox?

Botox is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, for people with neuromuscular conditions like myasthenia gravis, for those with an active skin infection at the injection site, or for anyone with a known allergy to botulinum toxin products.
