Is It Your Hormones?

Estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone all decline as women age, and the changes can start in your late 30s or 40s, years before your last period. Common signs include:

  • Hot flashes and night sweats
  • Trouble falling or staying asleep
  • Low libido or vaginal dryness
  • Brain fog, forgetfulness, or trouble focusing
  • Anxiety, irritability, or low mood
  • Fatigue that sleep doesn’t fix
  • Weight gain around the middle and loss of muscle tone
  • Thinning hair or dry skin
  • Irregular or heavier periods in perimenopause

If several sound familiar, a hormone lab panel is the best place to start.

Hormone Therapy at Every Stage

Perimenopause (often late 30s to early 50s)

Hormones begin to fluctuate unpredictably. Periods may become irregular, and symptoms like poor sleep, anxiety, and heavier cycles often appear first.

Menopause and Postmenopause

Once periods have stopped for 12 months, estrogen and testosterone levels stay low. Hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, and bone loss become more common.

After a Hysterectomy or Surgical Menopause

Removing the ovaries causes an abrupt drop in hormones, and symptoms can be sudden and intense. Hormone therapy is often considered to ease the transition.

Which Hormones Are Used for Women?

Your plan is built from your labs and symptoms, and may include:

  • Estradiol:the main form of estrogen, which helps with hot flashes, sleep, vaginal health, and bone protection
  • Testosterone:in small doses for women, which can support energy, libido, mood, and muscle tone
  • Progesterone:for women who still have a uterus and are taking estrogen, progesterone (usually an oral capsule) is prescribed to protect the uterine lining

Pellets deliver estradiol and testosterone. Progesterone is prescribed separately when needed.

We are thrilled with our first visit here. Everything moved very quickly and efficiently, as they seem to have a very effective team of employees. The appointment lasted approximately 1 hour, and that included new patient intake forms, vitals, seeing the doctor and getting labs done. I love how fast the process went, while also feeling seen, heard and feeling like our concerns were valid and taken seriously. The receptionists were all very friendly, inviting and helpful, including Delilah, who checked us out and set our next appointment. Finding a new primary care provider can be quite overwhelming and time consuming, but not here, and the services offered go above and beyond anything we expected. We look forward to future visits with this practice.

I’ve had a great experience with Alamo Primary Care. Everyone in the office has always been friendly, welcoming, and willing to help. The front desk ladies are always kind and make everything easy, whether it’s scheduling appointments or answering questions. The doctor takes the time to listen and explain things without making you feel rushed, and the PA has been just as helpful and knowledgeable. It’s nice to go to a doctor’s office where you feel like they actually care about their patients. Highly recommend!

This was my first time at this location and I was pleasantly surprised at every turn of this appointment. The front staff were incredibly welcoming and equally as funny. I’m a nervous talker so they humored me and it helped me calm down a lot. The doctor was punctual and very thorough for a first time visit which was a pleasant surprise. He had several follow up questions about each of my concerns and gathered more information as well as educated me more than any physician I’ve seen on a first visit. Excellent first impression and visit.

I cannot say enough good things about my experience with Dr. Vishal. From the moment I walked in, I felt comfortable from the check in with the ladies up front to the medical assistants in the back! He talked to me, not at me. He listened to my concerns, asked thoughtful questions, and made me feel validated. He came highly recommended and I never felt one ounce of regret. It’s such a relief to finally have a primary care doctor who makes you feel seen and heard. 10/10 recommend!

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I get Biote for women in San Antonio, TX?

Alamo Primary Care offers Biote bioidentical hormone pellet therapy for women at its Westover Hills clinic, 12047 Potranco Rd, San Antonio, TX 78253. Treatment for perimenopause and menopause symptoms starts with a consultation and hormone lab testing.

Where can women get hormone pellet therapy in Boerne, TX?

Alamo Primary Care provides Biote hormone pellets for women at 1411 S Main Street, Boerne, TX 78006, open Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. Women from Boerne, Fair Oaks Ranch, and Kendall County receive lab-based dosing and regular follow-ups.

Can Biote help with menopause symptoms?

Yes. Biote is commonly used to relieve menopause symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, poor sleep, vaginal dryness, low libido, brain fog, and mood changes. Alamo Primary Care evaluates each woman’s symptoms and labs before recommending treatment.

Can Biote help during perimenopause?

Yes. Women in perimenopause often have fluctuating hormones that cause poor sleep, anxiety, irregular periods, and low libido. Alamo Primary Care in San Antonio and Boerne uses lab testing to determine whether Biote is appropriate during perimenopause.

What hormones are in Biote pellets for women?

Biote pellets for women may contain estradiol, testosterone, or both, depending on lab results and symptoms. Women who still have a uterus and receive estrogen are usually also prescribed progesterone, typically as an oral capsule, to protect the uterine lining.

Why would a woman need testosterone?

Women naturally produce testosterone, and levels decline with age. Low doses of testosterone may help women with low libido, fatigue, low mood, and reduced muscle tone. Alamo Primary Care checks testosterone levels before including it in a woman’s treatment plan.

How long do Biote pellets last for women?

Biote pellets typically last about three to four months for women. Activity level, stress, metabolism, and dose can affect how long they last. Alamo Primary Care schedules follow-up labs and new insertions based on each woman’s symptoms and levels.

How soon will I feel better on Biote?

Many women notice better sleep and fewer hot flashes within two to four weeks of their first pellet. Improvements in mood, energy, and libido often follow over the first two to three months. Alamo Primary Care rechecks labs about four to six weeks after the first insertion.

Is hormone therapy safe for women?

For many healthy women under 60 or within 10 years of menopause, the benefits of hormone therapy often outweigh the risks. It may not be safe for women with a history of breast cancer, blood clots, stroke, heart disease, or liver disease. Alamo Primary Care reviews each woman’s history carefully.

Do I need a mammogram before starting hormone therapy?

Yes. Alamo Primary Care requires an up-to-date mammogram and Pap test before women in San Antonio and Boerne start hormone pellet therapy, along with a review of personal and family history, to help ensure treatment is safe.

Can I get Biote after a hysterectomy?

Yes. Women who have had a hysterectomy, especially with removal of the ovaries, often experience sudden hormone loss and may benefit from hormone therapy. Women without a uterus usually do not need progesterone. Alamo Primary Care tailors the plan to each woman’s surgical history.

Does Biote help with weight gain during menopause?

Balancing hormones may help some women with energy, muscle tone, and motivation, which can support weight management, but Biote is not a weight loss treatment on its own. Alamo Primary Care can combine hormone therapy with its medical weight loss program for women in San Antonio and Boerne.
